Theoretically you can copy it to the root of the usb stick from your computer to the ps3, then exit the FTP program and install. I'll try that right now and confirm it.

Edit: It's possible, just tried it. You don't need to put your usb in your pc for small files, for larger files you should though.

I can move files with 15+MB/s speed on LAN so it doesnt affect me much, And its easier to use.
