Tutorial:

I am assuming you have Geohot's CFW installed already

1: Install FileZilla
2: Put the multiMan .pkg, ftpserver_12.pkg, MW2 Patch 1.00.pkg, and the MW2 1.11.pkg in the root of your USB
3: Put USB into left slot USB on PS3 and go to Install Package Files
4: Select multiMan and install it
5: Once that's done, select ftpserver_12.pkg and install it
6: Now you should have two new icons
7: Put in the MW2 Disc but do not start it
8: Open multiMan on PS3
9: The MW2 Picture should come up once you agree to the terms of multiMan
10: Copy it to your HDD by pressing the copy button on the right (I think it is circle)
11: Let the entire game copy over
12: Once it's done exit multiMan and open FTP Server
13: Open FileZilla on your PC and in the top-right corner where it says Host: type in the IP Address that the FTP Server shows on the PS3
14: Once a listing shows up on the right, go to dev_hdd0
15: Then to GAMES and keep going in until you reach a folder that has a USRDIR folder in it
16: Copy the USRDIR to your computer
This will take a WHILE. You are copying 8GB
17: Now go back to the first set of folder in FileZilla(by clicking the ..)
18: Go to dev_hdd0
19: Create a folder here called MW2_GAME
20: Open it up and copy the USRDIR that you have on your computer in the MW2_GAME folder that you just made
This WILL take a while! It is 8GB
21: Once that is done, close out of the FTP Server on your PS3
22: Go to install package files again and install the MW2 Patch 1.00
23: Then open it up
24: The Game should ask you to download the latest patch(1.11). You wanna go ahead and install it.
25: Now you should be at the XMB after it installs, Notice that the program you just opened to install the latest patch is gone
26: Go to install package files and click MW2 1.11.pkg
27: Install it and then a new icon will appear in the GAME section
28: CONGRATS, open that file and you are now booting MW2 Multiplayer from the HDD. To change your patch you have to change it in the dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30377/USRDIR folder!

UPDATE: There is no inviting but people could join your lobby so if your friends want in they could just join (someone check this im not home)

Pro's: You do not need discs

Con's: No Inviting or Joining people.

black screen = eboot.bin not being modifed to point to hdd instead of disc.

pretty sure we need a mod eboot.bin to make this work?

I deleted any file with "so" at the beginning (for spec ops files) and then any location.ff and .bik file associated with it that didn't have "mp" in the name. I didn't delete anything that would look like it would be shared between single and multiplayer.

Good tutorial. I am trying it now. I might play around with removing the Single-Player files from the game in order to save hard drive space. It could be cool to have a multiplayer only MW2 on your drive.

if u could get the only MP msg me i would really like that to

BTW ive used more than an hour on copying USRDIR to pc.... normal?
