(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi!
Ive emailed Sony asking if u could get banned for installing an Custom Firmware and eventually do a game backup on a game you already purchased! The answer is translated with Google Translate from Swedish to English!

Answer:
Hi,

What you describe is piracy and illegal.

We will take action if it is legal or if it stops at the ban the device is not decided yet.

Sincerely / Best Regards

Christian

Hello!
I was wondering if you might be permanently banned if you install custom firmware on their PS3?
And what are the consequences if you save a game that I have already bought in earlier to the hard drive?
Thanks!

I'm not being scared of what he says. I'm going to install Backups anyway! But what do u guys think?

Sony seems to be highly against banning, and if banning does happen. There will be ways around it.

Well i think (if the respond is legit), Sony can't do no shit!
if sony bans almost 1,000,00 of their customers, they well just loose, and if im getting banned and/or i got Banned, i well switch back to my lovely xbox360! Happy

The way you described your email was a scenario in which HE has a game in his HDD that YOU bought thus he interpreted it as piracy. You need to email him again and ask if someone who legitimately bought the game can be permanently banned for backing up his game to his own HDD. That will answer the million dollar question for everybody.

Mr.Kane
Greatness
chances are loads of people will buy another ps3 for backups if they have to (and for free games)

Lol another thread about a letter or a phone call to Sony asking if you'll get banned.
All of which seem to be answered by some customer service geek who hasn't got a clue what's happening at the best of times, and most of which are answered differently.
Lets take these as the definitive answer, but which one???
One of the 40 that says you will get banned of one of the 39 that says you won't.
OH NOES i'm confused my head is going to explode.
Sony don't know, we don't know so stop with the stupid threads that answer nothing. /facepalm

iv been wanting to jailbreak to host a challenge lobby for mw2 since as everyones doing it, and i came accross a load of websites that say your IP gets banned, not just your console or account? so its kind of put things on hold for me, plus i dont have a clue as to how i would do it in the first place, still reading tutorials on that one.. Eek

surely they would lose lots and lots of customers?

That's BS because it's legal to make your OWN backups of legally purchased games. Everyone knows that.
