I backed up Fallout New Vegas and did the update and game install both via backup. Same with Assassins Creed: Brotherhood

I borrowed Fallout New Vegas off a friend and copied to my PS3 and took it out. Launched it from the manager with mw2 in the drive and updated everything without a problem. I cant speak for every game but New Vegas definitely allowed me to.
