Are Sony’s lawyers grasping at straws to take down PS3 hacker George “Geohot” Hotz?

In order to establish personal justification in the state of California, the latest round of court documents once again attempt to pin Hotz’s hacking efforts under the terms of the PSN user agreement.

It also includes evidence to support such a claim, notably that Hotz has a registered PSN user account under the alias of ‘Geo1Hotz’

Here’s the kicker: even Sony admits it has no actual proof that Hotz himself registered the account, noting that “Even if Hotz is not the user registered as Geo1Hotz, he could be registered to use the network under another alias.”

Pure conjecture.

Weak evidence there, we’d say. Hard to see the Court not dismissing this.

At the very least, it looks like this case will move to New Jersey, Geohot’s home state. It was already somewhat evident from Judge Susan Illston’s say on the matter last week.

Sony's trying to hard to win. Give up Sony.

Sony seems to be Losing this battle, Imo Geo will Win! What would be the end result if he Wins?

It's been legal, and will stay legal. It's still possible they can ban us however, but unlikely.

Sony, please give up. It's going to be a lot worse for you in the end if you keep trying to fight hackers.

Tah, why is sony against hackers, i mean they should by sonys right hand men! (Best people) i mean with out them they wouldnt know how to create a good console pretty much, they do so much modding it lags out the console or does crazy things, it pushs the PS3 almost to a level of PC.

Sony will fail. They can start the bans all they like but the damage has already been done and they know it. Why do you think Geo's in court? They want to make an imprint out of him and show the world that they will not STAND for CFW in any way, shape or form. The fact still stands. It's my console and I will do what I please with it. Just like my hacked Wii, PSP, DS and any other console I choose to modify under my own roof. They will not win. It's arrogant to state that we the "user" are not allowed to do what we please with our purchased product period. I can understand banning cheaters up the asshole but not banning those using CFW that are not doing anything of the such. Regardless of even pirated games going online. I personally would never take any pirated game online but you bet your ass I will take my purchased games online in a heartbeat and I think it would be irresponsible for them to think that they can take that away because I have some homebrew laying around on MY PS3. I love my PS3 and the products that I have from Sony but they need to learn like Nintendo and the 360 did. Let it go. You will sell more console's in the end. The PS3 is a powerful computer and with the console being unlocked the potential will hit the fan in very positive ways regardless of what Sony "wants". After all, who doesn't like a modded console that can do more than the original product?

Sony need to look at Metallica and what happened to them a few years ago when they took on Napster, Napster may of lost but Metallica came out the real losers that day (still rate them though)
