Sup homes. I'm back doing an in depth on all things CFW. Hopefully this will stop many noob fag threads that are cluttering our forums. So without further or do lets do this marines!
[multipage=CFW NOOB EDIT]
CFW is abbreviated custom firmware. We want CFW because this will enable us to run homebrew. Homebrew is magical thing that lets us do l33t h4cks like emulators, mods and the infamous challenge lobby.
The leader of the battle against patches GeoHot showed us new ways to piss off major corporations. He released the first CFW for PS3. Geo's CFW is very stable and does not brick your system for any other reason than human error.
[multipage=GeoHot CFW TUT]
So I will guide you through the CFW installation without ****ing up your system.
Notes: If this is your first time installing CFW please do yourself a favor and listen to me. Also Geohots CFW does not allow backup managers.
Cleanly restore your PS3. Do a quick format. Then restore system default settings. Backup your system onto a flash drive. This will ensure a clean install.
Okay past the precautions lets move on.

-Flash Drive

9. When the PS3 finishes turn it on. Do not try to do anything. Turn it off then reboot.
10. WAH LA! The PS3 has CFW.
[multipage=Waninkoko CFW] You must login or register to view this content.
Waninkoko's CFW was released for Pirates. It is designed to patch LV2. LV2 is what allows the PS3 to run backups. Since Geohots CFW did not allow backup managers for his own protection Waninkoko has made a CFW that does.
Warning: Waninkoko's CFW has been reported to brick consoles so try at your own risk. Check the Spoiler below for a compatibility list.
This is a thread where we write out what works with waninkoko's CFW and what doesn't. Currently the CFW has been released and many have been reporting brick with their consoles.
These are updates from a PS3 hacking news site.

Update: Uh oh… Waninkoko speaks up: “o NOT install in Slim consoles! Looks like users are reporting bricking issues. That’s weird as the CFW was tested on both models.”
I’m testing it now. Please standby.
Update: Well, on my Slim the installation went a-okay! That said I’ve uploaded the patched PUP for you. And I can also confirm that You must login or register to view this content., as a Backup Manager, works with no problem. I should mention I updated from You must login or register to view this content.; I already had multiMAN installed under that (for those wondering why it won’t install under Waninkoko’s CFW).
Update: There have been many brick reports… Some fat models, some slim… Many variables come into play when patching LV2. So right now, it’s like this: If you really, really want backups, then give it a shot, just know the risks involved — you could end up with nothing in the end. Otherwise I recommend you buy your games and jailbreak only for homebrew purposes.
Update: As the reports file in, it would seem older “Fat” (launch?) models are more prone to bricking. If you have one of those, I reckon you not try this at all. Slim owners — this doesn’t mean you’re in the clear either. While mine worked, your luck may differ.
Update: Consoles (older models) with 256MB NAND will fail.

Basiacally anything with a nand of 256mb will brick. If you cant to figure out how much nand your system has check below.

Note:If you don't know how to find your model look on the side of the box or where the serial number is. It is the last code.

You were a noob once. Were you a "fag" too? I agree with helping out others but don't call them "fags". We all started somewhere. Without those noobs you wouldn't even be able to post a nice and easy to read thread for the "learner's" out there. Share the information like the rest and do us all a favor and don't bash what you used to be. We were all noob's at some point. Embrace the hacking community and spread the information for us to have a much larger community of more educated hacker's.
The following 6 users say thank you to demize for this useful post:
