(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hey, I have the CHECHG03 40gb PS3 which is bricked after attempted install of Waninikokos CFW. I was told that I could buy a PS3 with a faulty blue ray drive off a site such as ebay and I could just put my blue ray drive from my bricked PS3 into the purchased faulty BD PS3. Would this work for any PS3 because I was thinking about compatibility issues. Thanks in advance Smile

You would need to make sure the drives are compatible first as there have been many slightly differant issues of hardware.

If they are compatible you can replace the laser part from your good drive into the broken drive. The laser mechanism itself does not have a unique id attached to it.

I know of one site that has all the hardware spec of the differant ps3's but i cant remember it, anyway, I found this item on ebay, if you look in the details you can see what type of laser you ps3 will have and if it is compatible with another model

heres how to replace it(taken from ebay page) You must login or register to view this content.

I do not know this ebay seller, and im not trying so sell his lens. Just answering your question, because I have a similiar problem and this is how i plan to solve it

At least I can fight
Blu-Ray drives have model/board numbers and are compatable with only certain PS3's. For example, I have a faulty 60GB Blu-Ray and so I need a KEM-400AAA Blue-Ray since that is the only one compatable with the model. I'm not sure where exactly to find the model number on the actual Blu-Ray drive but I know that's on there.
