The ones I've tested

- Kmeaw : Link ; You must login or register to view this content.

- Wutangrza : Link ; You must login or register to view this content.

- Geohot : Link ; You must login or register to view this content.

Waninkoko seems to brick ps3's so I didnt want to test that route. That is up to you.

The Good :

Kmeaw - This cfw has most users on this forums vote for top choice, but the only good thing it had for me was that every package I installed would run under Kmeaw while some pkg's would just take you back to the xmb with both geohot and wutang.

Wutang - This was by far my favourite. It ran great and fast. Never froze and seemed to run just about anything I threw at it.

Geohot - This is the most reliable and smooth running cfw you can download. Comes with a package installer and never seemed to freeze.

The Bad :

Kmeaw - This cfw seemed to freeze an awful lot on my system. Many people do not have this problem so feel free to test your luck. That is the only downfall on it. Other than that it did everything well. It would only freeze while in the XMB. Once you loaded a game you never had to worry because it would run great.

Wutang - The only bad thing with this cfw was that it doesn't come with a pkg installer. This is a very important necessity and I have no idea why this is the only cfw to not come with one by default

Geohot - The only thing I could find wrong with this one was the fact it would take me back to the xmb alot when trying to run different programs. It is also the most difficult to back up games on.

The One I Will Be Staying With -

Wutang is the one for me. It ran everything great and hasn't froze on me yet. Everything is super fast and smooth. The way to overcome the no pkg installer downfall is to load geohot's cfw first and install whatever programs you will need before you install Wutang.

My recommendations are

Geohot if you dont plan on doing to much with your cfw and are not very tech smart.

Kmeaw if you have a newer ps3 ( they seem to run great on them )

Wutang if you are fine with not having a pkg installer.

Pkg's - What I recommend.

-For backing up games all you will need is Multiman 1.13 - Link : You must login or register to view this content.

-For modding files all you will need is Comgenie's Awesome Filemanager Link :

These have helped me do whatever I need so far. Just install these on geohot and switch to Wutang for the current best operating cfw from my experience. If someone comes out with a pkg installer for Wutang it would be a hands down win. Nothing else would even compare.

These are just my results ( results may vary ). I am just trying to help out and give you my experience and knowledge before you go through it all. I hope it helped.

Thanks and good luck !

I have Wutang with Geo over the top. I'm using a slim (not that it matters), it's smooth, has a package installer and runs backups without a hitch.
I'd recommend it to anyone considering JB-ing.

if you go back to ofw 3.55 and restore your file system in recovery mode and then install kmeaw it runs alot more efficently.
