So i just finished updating my PS3, i decrypted the firmware first before updating, and NO this update will not brick your PS3 if you follow my steps. The only new thing in this firmware is a new self that has new keys that we're not aware of yet, but everything is visible so its just time till we Jailbreak this.

To update safely while keeping your homebrew applications, follow this:

1: Back up your PS3.
2: Download the official 3.55 You must login or register to view this content.
3: Then update via storage.
4: After your on the official 3.55 firmware, DELETE all your unsigned pkgs like the ftp server or whatever you have installed.
5: update to 3.56 via internet.
6: after you updated, restore your backed up files from step 1.
7: Enjoy your homebrew apps while they last
