(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This is what 3.56 update did to me:

Keeps BlackB0x and file manager BUT it does not allow you open them,

which means to all you CL users, YOU CANNOT CHANGE PATCHES!

when you open them, it will give you an error.
I did not use CFW i updated back to OFW keeping my programs. :O

Maybe try a different usb, or make sure its formatted correctly. Also did you get the OFW 3.55 from the Sony website? If you did all this correctly and it still won't work; just try waiting out the "Checking for update" screen to see if anything happens because if you have a lot of files on your usb it may be trolling through the files trying to find your PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDAT.PUP. Hopefully this helps.

When I tried to get back to OFW it only worked on a certain usb for me, not sure why.

Well i'll tell you my process, I performed history log wipe offline, i deleted all homebrew and wiped all history again using wipe history .pkg blah blah blah lol, and yes I downloaded OFW 3.55 from Sony and have tried to boot it from 4 USBs, formatted USBs and still no boot, I waited 2 and a half hours for the 'Checking For Update...' in recovery mode to disapear and still no install, I just can't quite figure out what i'm doing wrong if I am doing something wrong... Hmmm. /facepalm

i thought it was obv that all the homebrews were signed for 3.55 only.....

This method worked yesterday I did the same thank god. It keeps all your homebrew but you can't open them. All I did was downgrade to 3.55 then up to 3.56.

Ok well, I'm not really sure then. All I can suggest is if you have an external hard drive try using that instead of a usb. I used a external hard drive and it worked first time. Not sure if it had anything to do with it but if you have one its worth a try. Make sure there are no other files on your usb, it may speed up the "checking for update" process.

Also i remember reading a few forums a while back of people having the same trouble. Someone said that their computer had hidden the .PUP part so they added it in, then it was PS3UPDAT.PUP.PUP. So PS3 couldn't recognise it. No idea if this has happened in your case, but my advice is to just keep trying different memory sticks and make sure the file path is correct. Also look for threads that had the same problem that you have.

Yeah, i'll be sure to search for other threads on this problem, and hopefully find a solution otherwise i'll just keep my 3.41 JB, 3.55 OFW and go over deleting history on my 3rd PS3 the Geo 3.55 and see what the outcome is lol. Thanks very much for your help dude! :bro:
