I don't think so, I'm pretty sure that when you put in a 'lower' fw hdd, it will request you to update it.

I'm not 100% sure though. I would say about 70% sure.

I'm not 110% sure either, but like AlabamaHit said, I'm pretty sure it'll ask you to update when you switch to anything other that the current version firmware...

Unless your only planning on using the back-ups OFFLINE, then I don't really see an issue.

I'm also guessing you can always just switch to the DNS by pass when you're on the lower firmware?

But fatass ps3 saves in system.
So if u buy another ps3 HDD. U can boot a CFW from that i think

no, there firmware goes onto the nand aswell so swaping hdd,s wont work!!!!!!!

Nope won't work, The update data to install is on the HDD but switching it will not allow you to change FW as said already it's on the NAND.
