(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Geohot is one of the most respected and hated hackers and developers out there. He recently developed a dongle-less jailbroken firmware which allowed homebrew applications to be run and installed on the PlayStation 3, providing the packages had been signed with his tools. Since then, many developers have made better firmware updates, but I think it’s important to remember that both him and fail0verflow opened the doors to the PS3 development scene. Both geohot and fail0verflow currently have restraining orders against them, so any hacks or any development on Sony hardware is prohibited; But that didn’t stop Mr. George Hotz from sending a message to Sony, so here’s what it read:

It’s apparent you don’t care about your reputation with consumers, and I can almost understand your point there.

Few people consider buying a TV or laptop a moral choice, and the consumer base is quite large.

But talented developers are in much shorter supply, and take it from one personally, who you choose to code for is much more of a moral choice.

The programmers you will one day be looking to hire are the ones reading the tech news sites right now.

And they will remember.

I think that this is a nice clear message and actually has relevance to the evolution to come on the PlayStation 3. The people writing articles and reading this right now may be developing for Sony in future, as George said. The message here basically implies that Sony should care or at least do more for consumers – Which I agree on also. I just wish Sony would be embrace these developers and admire their work. Oh well - We'll find out more about Sony, geohot and fail0verflow's case soon enough soon enough. Smile

Geohot is doing a talk at the Stevens Institute of Technology, but had to remove the PS3 portions, thanks to the temporary restraining order.

We’ll keep you posted.

I don't mean to mini-mod, but this includes work that I've wrote.

I'll clear this up. If you guys read the forums a little bit better then there wouldn't be double threads. Before you say it, I'm not hatin' or taking sides, because to be honest - Flaming is no fun.

Something else, Luke didn't steal directly from someone else, he simply copied an article from someone else. Now, this other person has no right to accuse him of theft, when I wrote this article originally on You must login or register to view this content. - I've had it stolen without any sourcing to the original article. Just please source everything. It allows readers to understand the fact that someone else wrote it and that you're only trying to bring the point across to them. Even if the thread gets duplicated; from the source, you can re-write your version of the article with your own opinions.

I appreciate this community - hence why I'm here, but like I said - Flaming gets old and it results in decent threads being locked. Just keep the peace guys.

- Jake
