Step 1. Enter Service Mode.
Step 2. Downgrade your PS3 System to System Software Version 2.50 (this is the one that supports more PS2 gaming).
TUT here:You must login or register to view this content. (Instead of downgrading to 3.41, downgrade to 2.50)
Step 3. After downgrading don't get out of service mode.
Step 4. Uncheck Game-auto start in System Settings.
Step 5. Insert your PS2 disk cd/dvd on PS3.
Step 6. Load it and do not press the PS Button while playing otherwise it will crash.
Tested on a CECHP01 Console. The one game that would play exactly like in a PS2 was Twisted Metal Black.
Note: DO NOT TRY THIS ON A PS3 SLIM IT BRICKS! (But can be recovered while in service mode)
I was so upset when my 60GB broke. I'm so upset now because I updated to 3.56 and can no longer jailbreak.
you're quite stupid for just jumping into that. If you had already hacked your system. I hope you learned your lesson. But hey, It ain't the end of the world!!

misleading title....
when i saw the title it was like omg u can play ps2 on slim. but no.
the title should be:
How to Play PS2 Games on a BACKWARDS compatible PS3.
ok so you say dont do this for slim as the slim never had this firmware. but.. ok i read this somewhere i forget where but it said they do something to the 3.55 firmware to make it say 3.56 and it tricks the ps3 into thinkin that it is running 3.56. so could u not use the 2. whatever firmware and trick the ps3 into thinkin its running a 3. something firmware?
