Here is another way to do it. If YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS METHOD TELL ME ILL HELP THE BEST I CAN THIS SHOULD WORK. I HAVE TESTED ON MULTIPLE CONSOLES. put your real hdd in the system and go into the system restore menu (hold power until turns on and off, then hold again until two beeps) then have nothing else in your console usb wise and then go to system update and press start and select then change your hdd and let it go for a couple of seconds.. then shut the system off and turn it on again with the new hdd still in it and the hdd will work!!
hdd seagate - toshiba now
firmware 3.41 - 3.55 now
60gb - 500 gb now [/COLOR]
AND UR DONE

Have you managed to get trophy syncing to work via this method or tried it with a qa flag on?

just woundering if this method would work to swap my 350 gb hard drive from my ylod 3.6 ps3 to a slim 3.66 ps3 without formatting

Idk on swapin with diff firmwares I always do it with same firmware is 3.55 to 3.55 and this method works why would I back it up if It didn't and why isn't this in the dumpster if it didn't I wouldn't back it up with my website if it didn't work. And i used this method for QA Flagging stuff about two months ago I haven't used it recently I stopped testing my master firmware about two weeks ago when a company contacted me for videogame design I am working on
