it currently says:

any ideas, I've already tried changing 3.5600 to 3.500 but it still wants to download something.

We (the people active in this thread) are going to compare Signing into PSN on 3.55 and signing in on 3.56. We will be using wireshark to record what gets sent from the PS3 to sony & vice versa.
We will sign in on each firmware, OFW 3.55 and OFW 3.56, and while signing in wireshark will be recording the data being sent back and forth.
Hopefully this will get us one step further to bypassing 3.56 again

Right I have successfully recorded data while signing in on OFW 3.56, the file is located here (some bits I had to take out as these were getting picked up by other things, my antivirus updating and other things)
but I have recorded the data while signing in on 3.56, its somewhere in there

EDIT 1:
If your using the DNS bypass, or proxy bypass, then when you try system update via internet, it will say it has the current version, yet if you sign in via PSN it says theres a system update available.
So Sony has found out the real firmware through PSN, somewhere on the ps3's HDD is a file that tells sony that the ps3 is on 3.55, but where is this file?
Ways I see of fixing this:
finding the file and changing 3.55 to 3.56
installing a custom firmware which blocks out updates, or which says its on 3.56.

yes i know its old as i said in a post before that one just showing it had been done before.
I'm not installing it because at the moment I'm looking at all the code too see if there is anything to help.
I'm posting on here so if people want to give everyone a hand they can the more the better is how i see it

hey guys dont give up i read the thread from page one to 22 and you just give up??
so there is program called ps3 proxy server GUI that's works fine and can redirect files and there is logs for urls the ps3 request
so there was a method it was editing the .txt file (update list)
and sony just patched it so we gonna find new one so there is file in ps3 we should edit it to make 3.55 as 3.56 so when you sign in sony ask what is you fw ps3 says i'm 3.56 then we sign in with jail broken ps3 for ever
mohahahaha mohaahaha
so some body show us the file (oX matto Xo)
look at that S***
maybe we can edit it?
look at what its contains :
some one on 3.56 should help with given us his own file to edit our file

2- unpacking all update file (3.55) (.pup) contains and find the file and edit it then repack it and apply the update?

The last part: finding some ps3 hacker who can help us by making (.pkg) file who can replace the file we want? or (.pkg) can give us all permissions or even (.pup) file like ps3 jailbreak???
