The risks!
Jailbreaking is the process by which a device is modified to allow unsigned code to be run. There are, of course, risks involved. they are:

iOS Jailbreaking

There is a chance you will brick your device. If you do something wrong.

PS3 Jailbreaking

The PS3 jailbreak scene is pretty new. Here’s the risks:

• You could brick your device!

• Sony may start banning people from PSN in the future

• Sony may force firmware updates and remove your jailbreak OR (worst case scenario) brick your system

Basically, I take absolutely no responsibility if something happens to you or your beloved device as a result of using this Guide.

Before you begin, you need the following things. Make sure you know the risks before continuing!

UPDATE: You can not access PSN now with a jailbroken console. You must choose between the jailbreak or online gaming.



The Requirements:

• PS3 running 3.55 firmware or lower (You must login or register to view this content.)

• USB Hard Drive/Flash Drive formatted to FAT32 (You must login or register to view this content.)

• Some knowledge and common sense

Before you begin, switch on your ps3, go to Settings > Network Setting > Internet Connection, and switch your connection off.

STEP 1: Installing OFFICIAL FIRMWARE 3.55

If you have already have official firmware 3.55 running, skip to step 2. If you have 3.56 STOP HERE! YOU CANNOT CURRENTLY JAILBREAK

• Download official FW 3.55 (You must login or register to view this content.)

• Insert USB Flash drive (formatted to FAT32) into PC

• Create a new folder called ‘PS3’ on your USB drive

• Inside that, create another folder called ‘UPDATE’

• Copy ‘PS3UPDAT.PUP’ into the ‘UPDATE’ folder on your USB Drive

• Put PS3 into Recovery Mode (Learn how here)

Now you should be in Recovery Mode:

• Go to option 6. ‘System Update’. Press You must login or register to view this content.

• When prompted, insert USB drive, then press START & SELECT

• Now the PS3 will check the firmware, then restart

• After the restart you’ll be prompted to press the PS button

• The PS3 will check the update data, then load the User Agreement

• Press You must login or register to view this content., select ‘Accept’, Press You must login or register to view this content.Press You must login or register to view this content. again

• After the firmware is installed, the PS3 will restart

If you’re connected via HDMI, you’ll have to confirm your display settings. Then the PS3 will boot into the XMB. Now for step 2!

STEP 2: INSTALLING CUSTOM FIRMWARE 3.55 KMEAW

• Delete the official 3.55 firmware off your PC and USB Drive

• Download Custom Firmware 3.55 (You must login or register to view this content.)

• Now you simply follow the steps in step 1, except you use the custom FW instead of the official


To summarise:
• Put the Custom firmware on your USB Drive “USB/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP”

• Put PS3 in recovery mode

• Select option 6 ‘System update’

• Follow instructions on screen to complete the installation

Once you are back at the XMB, go to ‘GAME’ and if you see ‘INSTALL PACKAGE FILE’ your PS3 is jailbroken!

This guide will show you how to install packages (signed for 3.55) on your PS3 running custom firmware.

Requirements:

• Jailbroken PS3 (Learn how You must login or register to view this content.)

• USB Drive formatted to FAT32 (You must login or register to view this content.)


Instructions:

• Insert USB Drive into PC

• Copy the .pkg file onto the ROOT of your USB drive

• Insert USB into PS3

• Go to Game > Install Package File

• Insert USB Drive into PC

• On the root of the drive, create a folder called ‘PS3’

• In the PS3 folder, create another called ‘THEME’

• Copy your .p3t (PS3 Theme) files into the THEME folder on your USB Drive

• Insert USB drive into PS3

• Navigate to Settings > Themes > Install

• Select ‘USB Device’

• Then select the theme you want to install

Your unlocked PS3 allows the PS3 to run unsigned apps, or ‘packages’ which can be made by anybody - not just Sony.

There are loads more packages out there, Google is your friend.

• Power up your PS3

• Go to Setting > System Settings > System Information

• Your FW version is shown after ‘System Software Version’

If you have 3.55 or lower, good news, you can jailbreak. If you already have the 3.56 FW, you’re out of luck for now.

Recovery mode is the safest way to perform firmware updates, for both official and custom firmwares. Here’s how to get into recovery mode:

• Turn off PS3

• Keep the power button held down; The system will turn on and turn off again

• Once the System has shutdown, re-press the power button until you hear 2 beeps in quick succession

• When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button

• You will be prompted to plug in your controller and then hit the PS button

•The Recovery menu will pop up

You are now in recovery mode!

This guide will show you how to access PlayStation Network without updating to the latest firmware. If you are already jailbroken it is recommended to stay on the 3.55CFW.

Update:This does not work anymore


• Power up your PS3, navigate to Settings

• Network Settings

• Internet Connection Settings

• Custom

• Wireless/Wired

The new few stages you should know what to do, just do what you normally would do to get online until you get asked to enter your DNS:

• Enter both primary and secondary as: 67.202.81.137

• Complete the Internet Connection Setup

• Run the test, then circle to exit

You should now be able to sign into PSN without being prompted to update!

There are many ways to format a drive to FAT-32, but due to disc size limitations, and Win7 pretending FAT-32 never existed in the first place, the easiest way to format is with Partition Master:

Once it’s downloaded and installed, insert your USB stick/pen drive/external hard drive.

Now might be a good time to open up My Computer and see what drive letter your drive has been allocated.

Now you have the drive letter, open up Partition Master.

WARNING: FORMATTING WIPES ALL INFO. BACKUP 1ST

• You’ll see you’re drives listed up at the top right

• Select the drive you are formatting

• Right click

• Select format

• Change file system from NTFS to FAT32

• Click OK
