No. You can't get a new one if you bring up the old one. But at Wal-Mart, your average joe works there, and more than likely not familiar with PS3 consoles, so if you try doing what you want with it, which I forgot, and it fails, then restore it back to factory settings, and bring it back for an exchange. It MIGHT work. Don't know. With things like that, Wal-Mart may require you to go directly through Sony for their hardware mishap. Good luck to you on this though...
