It's a time of revolution everywhere in the world at the moment it seems. First Tunisia, then Egypt - now Bahrain and others are at it. But what about the lowly PS3 user?

In the light of recent events, it seems anyone who remains on CFW or OFW with 'devices' are going to get banned from PSN. The burning question is...

What are you going to do?

At the moment nobody can offer any solid advice because we simply don't know what Sony intends to do with those who remain on CFW, or those who jump back onto OFW.

Based on what is being said, reported and 'advised' so far:

--------------------------------------------------------

1. If you remain on any CFW, be it 3.15, 3.41 or 3.55 then it is only a matter of time before Sony revoke your PSN privileges. How long, we just don't know - so if you are hoping to access the network for a 'few weeks' and then jump back on OFW before the ban, you are gambling with very long odds.

2. If you continue to use a dongle with OFW, again it is only a matter of time before Sony revoke your PSN privileges - despite not being able to access it currently. Again, we don't know when.

3. If you revert to 3.56 OFW then Sony *appear* to be offering a form of amnesty, meaning that if all software and hardware that offends them is removed and you arrive at 3.56 OFW with a 'clean' console, they *may* disregard any previous 'bad behaviour' and allow you to continue accessing PSN.

--------------------------------------------------------

This is all we are aware of at present, so please don't read it as gospel. If you want advice, I'm afraid I can't offer it because it simply wouldn't be solid.

If you are contemplating staying on CFW, there are OGNs (open gaming networks) such as PSKinect in the pipeline that may offer users a viable alternative to PSN if they decide to remain on CFW or dongles - this may help you with your decision.

You need to ask yourself the following questions:
--------------------------------------------------------

A. Do I need PSN?
B. Do I need backup support?

--------------------------------------------------------

If you answered yes to A, then get yourself cleaned up sharpish - all amnesties have a deadline and this will be no exception.

If you answered yes to B, ensure that your console is invisible to Sony (there are tutorials on this) and brace yourself for any consequences this may bring.

If you answered yes to both A & B, you're going to be disappointed - but as previously mentioned there are OGNs being put together as we speak, so you may get the best of both worlds yet, albeit under a different name.

Remember - a ban is not a ban on you doing what you want with your PS3. It's merely a ban on using a service that Sony provides as an additional feature, which may or may not affect your gaming experience.

Hope this helps you with your decision, good luck whatever you choose to do. Now...

LET'S HEAR IT!

I updated, but my friend keeps a PS3 that he rarely uses on 3.55 CFW so I can just borrow it from him any time.

I've got two PS3's. One on OFW 3.56 and one on CFW 3.55, I use the 3.56 to go online and just use 3.55 to do tophy hacks.
