Post: [PS3] Defect disc-reader

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I'm considering buying a cheap PS3 FAT 40GB with a broken disc-reader (and old firmware).

My intention is to use this as an offline game jukebox and eventually transfer modded lobbies (if this even will be possible in the future?) to my PS3 Slim 120GB on OFW 3.56.

However I understand I will have some difficulties getting MW2 on the FAT PS3 in the first place as the disc-reader is broken.

I'm not fully familiar with the backup manager and I haven't even seen any MW2 torrents? Would it be possible for me to create a backup myself or is it necessary to void the warranty and exchange disc readers for a moment?

Also would I be best off with CFW 3.41 or 3.55 and which would be suit the purpose?

Any help and directions is highly appreciated, thanks Smile

It's easy to put the Modern Warfare 2 data in your FAT PS3. Just get your USB and copy your data from your slim PS3 and copy it in there. Then just copy it to your FAT PS3. The only thing that wouldn't work is your main account's level. And the MW2 torrent should be out there somewhere. I would also suggest going with the 3.55 custom firmware because you can bypass it to go online.

I'm sorry if I missed some tutorials to avoid this, but my experience is that when doing a copy/backup of my PS3 Slim I will only be able to restore it partial when it's not the same PS3, unless there's some way around this?

The Slim is on OFW 3.56 which doesn't leave a lot of options. Data transfer from 3.56 to OFW<3.56 also cancels and prompts for an update (which would ruin the purpose).

Any links to MW2 torrent also appreciated.

You can't copy the data? That's strange. I always did that. I'll try to find the torrent.

What FW were you using when copying data, also was it to the same or another PS3 System? If you you PM link to torrent I will eventually test it.
