Noob friendly. its called ps3-hacks.com. All the FW versions are available for download. You could probably try to parse the XML files that sony hosts to get the FW, but I am not sure where that would be located. I know apple has plists or such with their firmwares..

A tool for this is really useless anyways. Thanks for the effort though...
