(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Is there any hack that will prevent a ps3 from formatting a hard drive from another ps3 as my ps3 broke and i got a slim but i want to transfer over my files but if i put the old hard drive in it will get formatted so i was hoping to use some hack to stop it from reformating so i can use my friends spare ps3 to transper over my files using the data transfer utility.

I didn't quite understand you, you kind of scrambled your words a little lol (it may just be my dyslexia, if so ignore :p), but from what I can tell: take out your old HDD and put it into your new one (WARNING: I don't think it will work if you do Fat HDD to Slim HDD or Slim HDD to Fat HDD). Also make sure you take it out professionally and don't damage it, or look for someone on EBAY/craiglist who may be pro at it

Try taking it into gamestop or any other game store and see if they can do anything about it

The harddrive is serial bound to a ps3. If serial doesnt match it wants to format the drive. Try pulling out the HDD and if you got a external HD on usb, replace the HDD. See what happens.
You cant hook it up to the pc via the motherboard because the file extension is unknown from the ps3. Its encrypted. USB is something i didnt try and might possibly be the only way to backup data. If that works, format the new HDD on the ps3 and connect that to the external hdd and transfer back.
