Yeah, they can update your PS3 if you leave it plugged in. Also, I find this thread hard to believe because he mentioned service mode.

Its illegal for sony to update your system without your permission

no i mean you no wen it goes into service mode the text is block writing thats what it was like and i had to press start and select

First off, I'm all about some SONY hate....but seriously, this would never happen. Sony doesnt have a "kill switch" for your PS3...More than likely your file system was either corrupted, or because of whatever CFW you were running it became too unstable...If you had chosen to "Rebuild File System" from the recovery menu, you would be fine....Not to be a dick, but you really have to use more than 2 braincells on this bro...here is an idea, next time you make the decision to mess with the embedded software/firmware on an electronic device, do two things : Stop and think about what your doing.....If you cant handle these two things, then you shouldnt be "hacking", and I use the term loosely.
