The same thing just happened to me, I was booting a backup of bulletstorm my PS3 froze, I couldn't use the PS Button but I could eject. The restart button didnt work so i had to unplug, plugged it back in and i had 3.56 and couldnt run homebrew but i could log on to online.

I don't have any proof [unless a picture of my PS3 running 3.56 is considered proof in which case i can supply this.

I know if not the first person and i am PISSED.

I tried re-installing 3.55 kmeaw [nothing to lose] it went black and went to the install screen before giving me the no need to update message.

EDIT:
it didnt bring me to an install screen, just straight to reboot and i STILL have my app/home and pkg install icons just says im 3.56 in system info, lets me online and wont run homebrew

If this is really happening, we need for find the common denominator between you guys...Please post as much info about your set up as you can:

*PS3 model # ?
*Which CFW are you running?
*What back-up manager? What version?
***** PSN? PSNinja?
* PS+ subscription? Auto download option disabled?
* Lv2 patch installed?

Come on guys, quit crying about it and lets figure this out!!

if you are using ***psn doesnt that mean u spoofed ur ps3 so it looks like u are on 3.56, it might be because of that...

I am still able 2 play my backups and im on kmeaw 3.55. all i did was disable my Ps3 internet connection. That way im not getting any connection to the Ps3 at all. Im playing FFXIII now. although i been on the ps3 all day. imma try turning it off and back on again, and play a back up 2 see wat happens

I usually just disable my internet connection thedn run multiman
