(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Sorry this took 4 months. Was just too lazy

Here in this guide I will tell you how you can add HDD space to your PS3 via an external drive and it runs as an internal.

What you will need.

eSATA to SATA connector
or
eSATA to SATA cable
or if your unclosure is SATA
Just SATA to SATA cable
Hard drive enclosure
Internal SATA HDD
Philips screwdriver
Drill if you want to be organized
External drive to back up on (if it is over 60GB it will do your whole PS3)

The accessories will cost you between $20-$60 depending on which case you buy and how much your local geek store charges for the connectors. I used You must login or register to view this content.

Your HDD just needs to be the size your enclosure is. I used a 1.5TB seagate drive. But do not use that one. The ps3 doesn't recognize it. But it will read the 1TB ones. The 2TB WD on tigerdirect may work. Don't know. Your call. Just don't buy You must login or register to view this content.

So why pay for You must login or register to view this content. when you can have twice as much for about 30 bucks more?

Installation

Back up your ps3 to an external drive.

To make sure you don't fry your new HDD or your old one. Work on a table top in the kitchen and remove your static by whatever means you use.

Now that you have your work area setup, assemble your new enclosure and place the new HDD in it. Mine I had to slide it in a bracket then put screws in the bracket.

Now hook it up to your computer via the USB cable that came with it just to make sure it works. No need to format it. Once that is over remove the black plastic piece on the side of your PS3. There should be a clip of metal, slide it and then carefully remove the HDD from the PS3. Now if you want to be organized you can drill a hole in the side of that plastic piece to fit your cable through.

And also you can drill a hole in the wood/pastic of your entertaiment center for the power cable.

Take the eSATA cable with the adapter or just your SATA cable and plug into the slot of your old HDD inside. You may have to use tweazers or something small to push it into the plug snug.

Take your power cord and stick into a powerstrip or outlet. Flip the power switch on your PS3 (or power button) and the switch on the HDD at relatively the same time. If you get lucky your enclosure may power your HDD on when you turn the PS3 on.

Then your PS3 should boot up and ask to format disk and just say yes.

Now just plug in your external and restore your PS3. And away you go.

If pictures or a video tut is needed just post.
