Post: Firmware with Nand Programmer?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Like a number of other people, I have purchased a PS3 with 3.56 on it. I have combed through 100s of threads (most of them spam/flaming threads) and although I completely understand there is no downgrade (apart from possibly the brick method, which I cant brick mine anyway to try it)

What I cant quite understand or find information on is whether its possible to flash the firmware directly to the nand using a programmer, therefore solving the issue of not being able to downgrade from 3.56->3.55.

I would think if this is possible it would be of use for 3.60 as well.

Anyone that has more knowledge of flashing the nand directly and if the firmware flashes to anything else I would be grateful for some guidance to either help progress this, or be more patient and wait for the professionals to figure out a solution.

**EDIT** I'm told firmwares are located on the NAND (on fats) or NOR (on slims), some less important modules of the firmware are located on the HDD and they can be flashed using NAND and NOR flashers, but the question I still have is........how **EDIT**

Thanks

I like this idea but im sure the Devs have already thought of this. sounds a bit risky messing with the Nand. i for one am not willing to risk completely perma-bricking my system just for a downgrade (as much as i really want to downgrade) i have faith in the Devs and will stick on 3.56 until a easier/safer downgrade method arrives.

OK, I've been looking around, and there are people programming the Nands directly for a few different reasons.

You must login or register to view this content.

It would appear Nand Programming could be used in older instances of firmware using the Infectus mod chip:-

I would be interested on knowing why I cant just solder to the Nand and flash directly?

The only thing I did think is that I believe the firmware is individual to the console so I would need an image of the Nand before the update to flash back?

Just thinking aloud here, and need someone technically minded to jump in.

Thanks

Nobody is like me
Slims don't use NAND they use NOR the fat's use NAND you need to externally reflash it with like Fail0verflow's Sven did

This is what I am trying to find information about. I would like to know if people have been sucessful in flashing the chips directly. (by opening up the PS3 and attaching to the pins).

At the moment the only references I have found have been using infectus.
