You can not use back-up data from one ps3 and restore it on a different ps3 you will get an error. The only way it will work is if you use data transfer utility. If thats what you meant sorry. Anyways unless the new ps3 is on the same firmware or greater than the one you already own data transfer will not work. Hope this answered your question.
