Post: Setting up external HDD

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My 250gb internal hdd is just about full... I am planning on getting a 1 TB external HDD and i just want to know how i should set it up... From what i read, it is best to set it up in Fat32 since NTFS can only hold the games and not run them.. Can i easily make an external HDD Fat32 ?? What will be the best thing to do...

there's a program online called guiformat, google it and get that, because windows alone can't format a fat32 drive over 32 gigs, unless windows 7 fixed that, but idk

Yes, you will have to download a 3rd party software to do this on windows, If you intend on using it for your PS3 alot... It is definately worth formating to Fat32! =D

I plan on leaving it plugged in to my ps3, so i will make it a fat32 with a 3rd party app... Just one question, what issues might i run into... i know it cant have a file bigger then 4gb ... So, how often are files bigger then that and what happens when they are...

Yea simply you can change it to FAT32 using your computer Smile
It allows you to configure which partition it should be formatted to.

Bro it's 10x smarter and more efficient to buy a 1TB internal. Buy the 500GB external first. Transfer all the games on your internal to that. Install the internal and get your backup manager up and running. Transfer everything from your external to your internal. Then return the external. Good luck and happy pirating.

I am using a 1.5T external with all my games on it, runs seamless plus I can keep my internal hdd free for other uses.. eg playtv

But to answer your question.. what problems can arise?

1.) Not all ps3 games run off of external hdd, eg.. KZ3 only works on the internal hdd, but that is the only game I have had to leave on my internal hdd.

2.) You cannot add files larger than 4gb to the hdd, (assuming we are thinking of ps3 games here) there are ps3 applications that will split the game into smaller parts that allow it to be placed onto the external and work.

If you are like me as well and backup everything onto your external including movies work ect, you will need to learn to compress folders or split folders/files into separate pieces so that they are smaller then 4gbs.

But the average person most probably have this problem as they wont have any individual files larger then 4gbs.

Hope that clears anything up Smile

btw, i used a 3rd party app called "EASEUS Partition Master" to change external to fat32

Thanks tazzi...

That cleared almost everything up.. Just one more thing.. I plan on using my external for games ONLY, besides Killzone3, are there any other games with files bigger then 4gb... Also, how can i move the games from my internal to my external ???
