You mean video quality
mkv is a container.
The ps3 supports avchd, avi, mp4, wmv (non 1080p vlc codec) DivX, but it doesn't support mkv.
Most, but not all HD rips (from bd discs) are encoded in a mkv container. So even if ps3's supported the video codec, (m2ts/mts for example) it still wouldn't play the video if it was in a mkv container.
It's great that this program can now play 720p mkv's because I download every episode of Tales of the Graces last night, and now I can watch them
