You can only add people on the alt PSN, so yeah it's seperate from the 'real' PSN.

But on games that don't use sony servers like CoD you can play with people on the normal servers, just can't add them on PSN etc.

On sony servers sometimes you can only play with other people on rebug sometimes you can play with normal people.. depends on the game really.
