I suggest loading Rebug CFW on there and setting up your psn account on the dev network before doing a data transfer. One precondition to transferring data is that the transferring PS3 has to have an active PSN user on there. So if you have never connected to PSN with the new PS3 you can't transfer.

You can but you gotta change some settings.

Your PS3 should come with a firmware lower than 3.55, I just recently cought one and the model came with 3.42
