This one is a CECHE01 backwards compatible 3.42 console. How do I safely update to 3.55?

3.42 OFW---> 3.50 OFW ---> 3.55 OFW ----> 3.55 CFW right?

I think it ****ed last time because it wasn't the original hard drive or maybe a combination of that and the fact I tried to go 3.21 OFW --> 3.55 OFW?

Pretty sure this one has the original hard drive working this time.

you can go straight to 3.55 OFW then CFW you want.


if there is a way, when updating via the Internet would give you the necessary updates ....
but it doesnt.
if you choose update via internet it will tell you 3.60, that means you can go straight to 3.55

You should be able to just update via usb to any firmware. If you're having troubles then you should try to update it in recovery mode

To get in recovery mode, start with the ps3 powered off and hold the power button until the ps3 shuts on and off. It will beep a bunch of times. Then, hold the power button for another 10 seconds so it beeps twice. Once this happens, let go and you should be in recovery mode.

Ok, got to 3.55 OFW, now when I try to install KMEAW's CFW It says the latest update is already installed.

I'll try recovery menu.

got to Kmeaw through recovery menu, installed multiman, then the system overheated and went blinking red light and shut off. I disconnected and set in a cool place. Will look into reflowing. If it overheats once is it going to keep doing so? What are the recommendations on this type of problem?

I think you sir have just recieved the RLOD/YLOD for your PS3

I'm going to let it sit overnight in a cool room. If it does the same shit tomorrow, time to learn how to fix these mother****ers. Must have 3rd CFW PS3 so me AND my friends can play any game offline while PSN is pooped on.
