Have you tried putting it back into recovery mode and then from there, reinstalling 3.55 ofw firmware again, failing that you could try the restore file setting and the rebuild setting

Tried to put it tino recovery mode , but nothing shows up on screen. ( you mean recovery, the hold power button etc, and not service mode right?)

How to rebuild the settings?

Yeah, hold the power button down when switching on, keep holding until your Ps3 turns on and off again, during this time, you should hear 3 spaced out beeps. Turn your Ps3 on again and it should boot recovery mode with six options.

PS3 Recovery Mode

1.Restart System(reboots console)

2.Restore Default Settings(Restores ALL PS3 settings time, music, network connection ect NOTICE : this does delete profile sign in information Email and passwords but activations for downloaded content remains

3.Restore File System (Restores the PS3's File system aka firmware data)

4.Rebuild Database (Restores the PS3's Database all Pics,Music,Video and games directory's, File names are returned to default OS is rebuilt)

5.Restore PS3 System (Basically all of the above and Formats the HDD Restores everything to Default)

6.System Update (Update the PS3's firmware or reflash the current firmware)

Tried but no options come on screen. You hear the beeps and all. I hod the power hear two beeps then it's off, then again i hear 3 beeps (1...1.1), and l let go of the pwoer button. But nothing comes on screen.

Don't release the power button, hold it down till the Ps3 turns itself off, you should hear it click then it powers down. Then turn it on normally, press button and release straight away, recovery mode will boot and menu will be displayed.

If you've heard the three slow beeps, then you've just got to turn it on.

Will try that whn l get home.

I suspect that there might be something wrong with the flash emory, becouse the update might have failed(downgrade)
anyway to fix that?!?

I use a memory stick that flashes when its being accessed when ever I down grade to a lower firmware, becaused the same thing happened to me a few months back where I just had a black screen after downgrading thinking that it had finished.
Hopefully your still in service mode, put a update pup in the root of the usb device with this You must login or register to view this content. and place it in the usb slot close to the dvd drive.
Turn on your ps3 and hopefully it will repair your bad flash

Great thx. Will try the second l get home.

Might work

Btw l found a log file in the usb stick where l put the FW and .self file. It said something about a verification failing ?? It seemd like it got a decent 90 % way through and then something failed??

Could that totaly fu** the flash memory in the ps??

does anyone know where l can get a decent update pup? the one l have might be dodgy.

if you can access recovery mode, it can be fixed, just have an update on a USB stick and reflash it. Rebuild and restore files could also work. Let me know how you get on and if you're not successful, we'll come up with something.
