Hardware Modder and fellow PS3HaX member KillerBug, who is responsible for a couple of PS3 Fan mods that we have front paged, has been tinkering away on his Arduino board and his PS3, he has created, what he calls a “Hardware Mod Firmware”, here is a quote from his blog:
Over the past few weeks, I have posted various bits of Arduino sketches for controlling 7-segment displays and reading thermistors. This has all been leading up to this release.
So What is a “Hardware Mod Firmware”? It is a basic sketch that does all the things that most PS3 modders will want to do, while leaving room for other things. It supports from 1-4 thermistors, and you can use 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8 displays to read out the various temperatures. It also transmits the 4 temperatures by serial to a PC or other device with a serial monitor; so you can read all 4 temperatures without any 7-segment displays. Based on the temperatures gathered, the fan speed is set. I intend to refine the process considerably…right now, it is extremely aggressive in trying to maintain a very small heat range…because of this, the fan sounds a bit like a car revving the engine. Smoothing this out is just one of several things on my unofficial “to do” list…but if anyone has any other ideas, feel free to post…you might even think up something that I didn’t.
The sketch is highly configurable; supporting ground and hot controlled displays, and being easily adaptable to different thermistors. The sketch will work fine with any combination of 1-4 thermistors, and 0-8 displays as is; you do not need to modify anything if you are not using sensor(s) or display(s). The minimum number of thermal sensors is 1, but I recommend at least 2…3 for BC units. The 4th sensor is completely useless if you do not have all eight of the 7-segment displays as it does not factor into the fan speed calculations…that is another thing I am thinking of adding.

[multipage=KillerBug’s PS3 Hardware Mod Firmware – Version 0.02a ]
KillerBug has updated his PS3 Fan monitoring “Hardware Mod Firmware”, to version 0.02a, here is a quote from the blog and a snippet from the code:
Big changes this time…now it uses two 7-segment displays and 5 LEDs; all four temperature readings are displayed as well as the fan speed percentage. Still does serial, still easily configurable. Due to the nature of this new design, I decided to make a video.
This is a script primarly designed for Sony PS3 mods, but designed to be easily changable for other applications.
PS3_HW_MOD_FW_KillerBug_Arduino – Version 0.02a
By Killer Bug
Features:
1.) Reads 4 thermistors, uses them to control the fan. Also displays temperatures and fan speeds on a pair of 7-segment displays. Also transmits all four temperatures and fan speed by serial to a PC or other serial capable device.
As the script is designed, these are placed as follows:
-Thermistor 0 is attached to CPU heatsink base
-Thermistor 1 is attached to GPU heatsink base
-Thermistor 2 is attached to the northbridge chip
-Thermistor 3 is placed at the front, in front of the vents, or the on the emotion engine if equiped.
-This script is designed for ground-controlled displays with ground controlled decimal points. It can be converted to work with hot-controlled displays with hot-controlled decimal points. To do this, first make a copy of all the instructions between the two sets of long ==== lines elsewhere, as the process will destroy the instructions before you are done.

Im not 100% sure but when dumping nor/nand the thermisters/processors ect can get very hot. People have gone through countless PS3's trying this. I think i remember Math mentioning he was thinking of using liquid nitrogen to cool the PS3 while doing this. Im no 1337 hacker like these people but im assuming they could use this to regulate there temp along with other methods.
Sorry for the sloppy post im using my phone.
but the users on this site are not devs and hackers, we are just users of the hacks. we do not have one dev on here, so this stuff is useless for ngu members is what im saying. plus the people you mentioned, are not members here. also the only hackers we do have are mw2 hackers, which don't release and hack anymore.
i have a better idea instead of doing all this pointless work.....just point a fan at your ps3 problem solved if your really even that worried about your ps3 temp....my ps3 stays really cool

 mine does too, what is the point of this anyway? is it just to regulate the fan?

yeah this guy is doing all this work just to control how fast his ps3 fans spin it is so ****ing pointless but hey if he wants to waste his time on stupid shit like this i say let him

yeah i can go to gamestop and buy a fan to attach to my PS3 too lol
