Can I mod patches even though it can't read discs? For example, I'm going to mod COD4, but I want to know how I can get the Game Utility of COD4 on it.

i can simply just copy it from my regular PS3, put it on a usb, can put it on the Jailbroken PS3 that can't read discs right?

And then Data Transfer.

I just need a verification before i go and buy the PS3

im not sure but i think you need a working bd drive to use homebrew or it just black screens so you wouldnt be able to mod anything

and also you dont mod the game data you mos the patch you download by running a file manager or ftp and replacing the patch.mp.ff with the hacked one

You may have issues, as in order to modify/copy/etc patches you need to run homebrew, which doesn't work all too well on PS3s that can't read discs.

It should work if you have the necessary .pkgs. Just google Cod 4 country .pkg file and it should pop up, then install on ps3 and then mod.

I've modded cod5 using a PS3 that doesn't recognise disks so yes it should work

Say I use Geohot CFW, and I put the Comgenies Awesome Filemanager onto the PS3 from my USB HD, That won't work ?

What Jailbreak version did you use and was it FTP or Comgenie?

When you get it rebuild the database, restore the system, and hold the eject button down for 15seconds with no disc in.. there is a chance that that will fix the bd issue actually if the ps3 updates then it may not necessarily be broken also try a dvd if it reads that then follow the tutorial on here about cleaning you bd lens without opening your case and try again if that doesn't work then it is a hardware fail.
