(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); just a quick question, im on 3.56 and was wondering about encryption of the hdd for this firmware and above. the ps3 hdd is encrypted but is the partition encrypted or the files or both? is the drive locked (i.e. xbox 1) and also are the files compressed as well? do we even know the answer to any of the aforementioned?

if your trying to decrypte the hdd just stop where your at and wait for cfw if thats what you want

everything to the drive is locked
this wont help with cfw as the fw has nothing to do with the drive

hi travis please don't take this the wrong way but why im asking has nothing to do with custom firmware, rather its more like allowing downgrading. i need info on the drive, i.e. how the data is encrypted, whether the files are encrypted, or the partition, or even if the drive is locked.
as im sure you know when you get an update the ps3 checks the signature of the file and/or the keys used to sign it, and its this that always fails. my theory revolves around modifying the data on the hdd by means of decryption/encryption because it was speculated that if you can decrypt the data on the hdd before the update actually begins, but after the checking process, then you could in theory install anything. im trying to find out if i can think of something someone hasnt thought of yet to allow decrypting the hdd contents.

The HDD has near to no baring on updating, all the critical firmware files are stored on the NAND Winky Winky

are you telling me when you run the update it extracts the update to the nand before flashing the files to the nand?
from what i understood it extracts the contents to the hdd in preparation for the second phase of the update (the part where the files are flashed to the nand).
im trying to find out information on what would be required to get at that data before it is flashed.
