some people feel that they are a retard so they get really offended when they get called it. it's their personal beliefs and self-security.
personally, I have a few "retarded" friends. Not retarded, but they aren't very smart and they don't read and write very well. They hate when people call them a retard. Makes them feel worthless. Kind of like calling a fat kid, fat, you know what I mean?
Yeah, but there's a million other words that are thrown about the internet everyday that certain people in certain scenarios could find just as hurtful, if not more-so.
Besides, this is gonna sound a bit rough but they need to build up some thick skin at some point or another or they'll always be vulnerable to people's insults.

Because stupid people and idiotic people aren't born that way (well sometimes I guess). Calling someone retarded offends people who are actually mentally retarded.
By that logic, shouldn't people be more offended by being called idiots? If being a retard implies you were born unintelligent and being stupid implies you f*cked up enough yourself to be unintelligent, then which is more offensive? Seriously?
