(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I was just doing random searches regarding PS3 save game editing and came across an interesting discussion that got me thinking.

Hi, I've HEX editted a Save Data (SAVEGAME.SVG) and loaded it up on the game but I've gotten an error saying 'Bad checksum, this file is corrupted'.

That's because I didn't update the checksum value, I know. But I'm still confused, I have a few questions ...

1) Is the checksum algorithm of a PS3's Save Data similar to that of a PS2's Save Data?
2) Still CRC-32? Or different now?
3) Where exactly is this PS3 checksum value? At the very beginning of a file, I'm assuming?

Thanks a lot!
That was away back in 20 Nov 2009 @ 10:44 on the AfterDawn forums and it got me wondering. We now have the Xploder game save resigner.. soooo.. anyone guess my idea/question? Would it be possible to HexEdit a game save and then use the Xploder to resign it?

The thread I was reading (Serane's thread) states that once the save game is edited there was an error saying 'Bad checksum, this file is corrupted' well back then there wasn't the Xploder.. would it be possible to HexEdit a game save and THEN use the Xploder to repair its checksum?

Has this been thought of? Anyone tried it?

Yeah but the Xploder only allows the resigning of game saves from another persons PS3 to our own. What I am suggesting is that we could open our save game and edit values then repair them and return them to the PS3.

Ok.. say a game requires you to have 1000 gold and you have 500 gold. Open the save game in a HexEditor and search for 500 and alter it to 999 and then save it. This would corrupt the save files checksum BUT if you then used the Xploder to repair the file.. then when you load the save game file it MIGHT mean all you need is a single gold to pop a trophy! This would be useful for many things. Say for example a game says you can only save the game 4 times on EXTREME difficulty. Well the number of times the game has been saved would be stored in the save file. So use the HexEditor to reset it! Use Xploder to resign/repair it.

On another note.. does anyone know of other programs similar to "Willowtree" for Borderlands but for other PS3 games?

Ain't this what a CFW is used for ?
Changing the save , not sure if you can do it on xplodeer due to the protection some saves now have.

I am running OFW rather than CFW, another reason I use an Xploder to reassign my saves.

Yeah people that use CFW can pretty much do anything they want with their system, except visit the PSN Store, and as I buy things from the PSN Store and do online gaming I wana keep my OFW, until they can make a LCFW like I use on my PSP where I can flick back and forth between OFW and LCFW Pro.

What I am thinking is for those that use OFW they could use a HexEditor to edit the game save and then the Xploder to repair the checksum.
