PS3 HDD Decryption released by 'naehrwert'

Glevland famous for improving on Linux things on the PS3, had previously published some info on how 'PS3 HDD Decryption' works, but this was only available to Linux guru's, but now thanks to the info released recently regarding the EID in CEX2DEX converts, scene developer 'naehrwert' along with the help of Glevand and @flat_z have published today a POC for PS3HDD decryption.

thx @flat_z and glevand: You must login or register to view this content. (ps3hdd decryption poc)

Remember this is only a POC, but with this and all the talk I see recently in the 'PS3DevWiki', we could soon see thanks to this hard-working 'scene' developers:

a easy way to swap PS3 HDD's and access them on PC, without all the 'locks' that Sony placed on it meaning:
modifying system files could be done without FTP / CFW

Those are your missing info.

I've corrected bugs in the Ubuntu kernel.

I can't figure out how to use naerhwert's source code to decrypt the ps3 hdd.
xxmcvapourxx said he had done it. He explained how but it was quite vague.

Steps adapted from xxmcvapourxx 's post

  1. install other os and gameos and petitboot on 3.55
  2. learn linux
  3. dump your ENCDEC via vflash using glevland script
  4. get your eido root key
  5. comply them with naehewert tool's
  6. hack your hard drive
  7. decrypt and encrypt

Can you make sense of Step 6 or 7 here?

I'VE GOT JUNGLE FEVER
Correct me if I'm wrong but this cannot encrypt nor handle anything past 3.55? Due to keys, unless they were discovered.

I haven't bothered to download the source, no need, but I'd assume those are your missing pieces the keys and stuff. "Hack" your HDD basically means hook it up via sata cable. Use the source code to decrypt & encrypt. Once you understand the source code, you can easily make a GUI :P. Possibly sell it with giving credits to naerhwert.

This explanation is no better than xxmcvapourxx 's.

Im looking for something along the lines of :

  1. Get this key and these keys from your ps3 using this tool.
  2. Insert those into these places in naerhwert's source files.
  3. Compile in this way.
  4. Access PS3's Hdd dump with this method.
  5. To Decrypt: Run nearhwert's compiled tool in this way with these parameters.
  6. The decrypted dump will be in this place.
  7. To Encrypt: Run nearhwert's compiled tool in this way with these parameters.
  8. The encrypted dump will be in this place.

That would be an explanation.
