Lots of buzz over the PS3 scene lately, with a possible upcoming CFW 4.21 and a new 'BlueDisk' dongle , so take a look at this summary of the all known info!

Things have been very interesting over at the PS3 Scene in the last few weeks, with lots of DRM-Free eBoots, DEX/debug releases and many other nice PS3 utilities for all us to enjoy.

Now, as you may know, there are many rumors about a possible and incoming CFW 4.21, first revealed by the "Red Power Team", and now there's more info about it, including an apparent "BlueDisk" dongle that would allow this CFW.

Here's a little summary of all the known 'facts' and a background of all this by our own forum members right here at PS3Crunch.

After some blurry video surfaced the net regarding a CFW4.21 running "Dead or Alive 5" by Red Power Team - You must login or register to view this content., a lot of people starting to scream "fake" on it. However, after a lot of discussion about this CFW, mostly on duowan forum, the first explanations start to appear:

- Some guys from Duoawan forum have been contacted by some members of "Red Team" who have "give" them a PS3 with a CFW4.21 running on it, to allow them to test it. The video has been made and on that forum the tests have begun. According to the admin (apparently a very respected guy on that forum) this was the real deal, and with that, the info starting to spread the net.

At the same time Deank release Multiman CEX version 04.06.00, confirming that a "cfw4.21" is somehow possible, and nicely have give some more explanation here, on crunch. Reality is that a CFW4.21 is around the corner, but the details of "when" or "how" are not know.

Meanwhile, Team Red Power have give some more details, on the future "BlueDisk" and until further notice it seems that until now, the most updated info on that "BlueDisk" that will allow CFW4.21, is the translation from @hellish on hax, regarding some post by this "BlueDisk" Team on duowan forum:

Hey, it seems Blue Disk(Red Power) finally came to the spotlight and posted an announcement at duowan forum just now.

Translation:

1: We really appreciated duowan's detailed test and everyone's enthusiasm.
2. When delivering the test PS3 to duowan, we never mentioned anything about CFW4.21 being commercial or not, so it's not fair to blame us for cheating duowan. We deeply apologize for any misunderstandings.
3. Team Blue Disk has never released any 3.55 USB dongle before, so please do not confuse us with those discredited teams.
4. We understand that many users are dissatisfied with previous 3.55 dongles, so we have prepared two versions:
A: You cannot upgrade to newer CFW and will remain at the current CFW
B: You can upgrade to new CFW. We will offer free handware change and free software update. We promise to update this CFW continually.
Both these two versions are very cost-effective and we will announce the price later.
5 Please prepare for more wonderful surprises when we launch Blue Disk.

FAQ on BlueDisk
1. Blue Disk is compatible with downgradable consoles ONLY, and can be updated to from 3.55 or below.
2: No need to modify your hardware after upgrading to this new CFW and you can downgrade to 3.55 again via PUP. You can upgrade to OFW. These actions can be performed repeatedly.
3. No bricking risk involved (do not turn off power when upgrading)
4. Original game backup can be run on BDCFW via internal or external HDD without any modifications.
5. Blue Disk dongle can be removed after CFW is booted. No need to keep it plugged in all the time.
6. BD team will develop more features for BD USB dongle, such as PS2 emulating, offline/online cheat codes.
* Additionally, the guys at ConsoleCrunch have been contacted by an anonymous source -who claims to be an old developer- and apparently has some theories about this CFW 4.21, including the method that N0DRM use to patch Eboots. Take a look at what he has to say below:

Hello ConsoleCrunch i’m a old dev and i have a big news about the CFW 4.21, some people call me a lier and today they use what i was explaining about CEX-DEX, Decrypt Eboot etc… i’m going to reveal some news about the 4.21 CFW

Easy to make a CFW 4.21, first you absolutely need to have a PS3 4.21 DEX for that, that help you to decrypt all the dev_flash and co… also you need to dump the LV2 from the 4.21 DEX (that let you decrypt the 4.21 LV2) and after all you can resign and play with poke and co

Extract the 4.21 CEX pup, decrypt the files with PS3 4.21 DEX, keep the keys safe, make a PUP CFW 4.21 with the new 4.21 files resigned/modifie d, that all…

Hi Mujarrad, already tested a long time ago… this is one of the solution, you can dump the 4.21 kernel from the 4.21 DEX and take example from this one to make your own CFW DEX and also for CEX that is pretty similar but you need a PS3 DEX to work under development mode that let you execute under debugger mode

You can decrypt/encrypt everything with a PS3 4.21 DEX and the right App… for example just with the Multiman you can dump the LV2 4.21 and decrypt this one with the PS3 (you also need to active log mode) that log every of your action and save it into your usb storage

This is way that NoDRM work to make patch for the PS3 Games, you can even do it yourself if you don’t want to wait the release

One of the best app available is memdump that let you dump lv1/lv2 and flash memory don’t forget this app, it’s usefull with a PS3 4.21 DEX
* And finally, the same source has also shared the following info with some bonus files (Password: 1984):

There you go. Only one thing is sure in here: things will get a lot more 'exciting' in the future, and of course, we will know if all those claims and rumors are true or not in the upcoming days, so stay tuned!

* UPDATE:

And yes, the same anonymous source is back with another comment. "Step Three":

Step 3 :

Welcome to the world of Sony

I just want to say a hello to Geo (no the one you are thinking) and tell him that

Remember 2OFive ? Are you making a new dongle, the first commercial one was not enough ? Sony Still keep the dongle plan alive (win money with commercial hacking/piracy) ? SONY MAKE.BELIEVE PIRACY

Anyway

i suggest noone buy it because a dongle is not required - there just trying to cash in on a product that will have very little future because almost as soon as its released the method will be found and a wave of dongle free cfw will show up.

also according to news you must be on 3.55 custom or official to install it. its a waste of money imho, just wait it out, a couple of weeks or less after its released (provided its not fake) then we will have our new cfw finally. its still no use to those who dont have a hw flasher but its a step in the right direction.

damn im pretty sure this exploit there using is still on 4.25 right?
10-01-2012, 11:00 PM #22
actually no - even if they are using an exploit, which i dont think they are, the known exploit only works up to 4.20 and isnt usefull anyway. this is the reason you still need a 3.55 console or a hw flasher.

Dongle's are stupid. Also, for the love of God, a CFW IS NOT a jailbreak. :y:

I'm waiting for Sony to update the system which then actually ends up opening a door to being able to Jailbreak PS3s again... but i can only dream :(
