I would like to present my OFW, CFW, DEX, SEX, MFW PS3 Collection!
I would like to present my OFW, CFW, DEX, SEX, MFW PS3 Collection!
Getting Started:
OFW = Original Firmware from Sony
CFW / CEX = Custom firmware, a professionally modified open PS3 firmware
DEX = A DEBUG Firmware (Developer) only test / debug PS3 consoles
SEX = Kiosk / Demo Firmwares information on all PS3 versions
MFW = User-Created Custom Firmware
PS3 Glossary:
Cell - Also known as Cell Broadband Engine Architecture and abbreviated CBEA or Cell BE, this is the processing brain of the PS3.
CEX - This is a retail machine.
CFW - Custom Firmware.
Cinavia - A system implemented in Official Firmware 3.10, this was an effort to stop PS3 owners playing Pirated/Backed Up movies, those on MFW/CFW can install a Homebrew App to bypass this.
CRL - Certificate Revoke List.
DEX - This is a Debug machine.
DualShock 3 - Sony later released this PS3 Control pad, that has the Rumble Function, they were able to implemet Rumble when they settled with Immersion.
Emotion Engine - Also known as EE, this was the Graphical heart of all PS2's and was in the first released PS3's and later removed due to cost cutting and replaced by Software Emulation.
DISC.SFO - File to force you to use the original disc of the installed HDD Game.
EBOOT - This file is present in all PS3 games, it contains various information, during the 3.55MFW/CFW days, patches would have been released for eBoots signed with newer Keys/SDK, so that they could be playable on 3.55
ELF - ELF means Executable and Linkable Format, this type of file is present in or used on PSP, PS2 and PS3.
IDPS - ID Per System (Thanks Kamel and zecoxao).
ISO - Also known as ISO Image, this is like a RAR file which combines the contents of a Disc(CD/DVD/Blu-Ray) into a single file, used on CFW PS3's for PS1/PS2/PSP and PS3 Games.
lv0ldr - Level 0 Loader aka Boot Loader aka bootldr.
lv0 - Level 0.
lv1.self - Level 1 Secure ELF.
MFW - Mod Firmware.
NAND/NOR - The PS3's flash
Nonce - Number + Once = unique random number
PARAM.HIS - display the changelog of the game/homebrew from xmb.
PARAM.PFD - File used for secure the ps3 save data.
PARAM.SFO - File which contains settings/parameters around/about the game such xmb in game, remote play, resolution, fw min game should use, region deny...
PKG - This is a package file, it is used to install games or software/homebrew.
PlayStation Plus/PS+ - This is a premium service for PSN, it gives subscribers free games, discounts on games and early access to betas.
PPE - Power Processing Element, the PS3 has one of these, which contains 8 SPE's.
PS3_DISC.SFB - File used for activate sub-folder of the game such update, theme, and others.
PS3UPDAT.PUP - This is the firmware file, that you use to update your console.
PSL1GHT - Open Source Version of Sony PS3 SDK.
PSN - PlayStation Network.
PUP - Playstation Update Package.
RCO - file that contains icons, text and sound that appears on xmb but can not be modify from theme.
Remote Play - PSP, PSVITA, PC or phone used as sound/video monitor and controller for PS3. Different resolutions are available but not all the games are compatible.
Revoke - To void the validity
RLOD - Red Light Of Death.
RSOD - Red Screen Of Death.
RSX - Also called Reality Synthesizer, this is the Graphical heart of all PS3's.
SDK - Software Development Kit.
SELF - Secure ELF.
SEN - Sony Entertainment Network.
SEX - This is a shop/demo machine.
Sixaxis - This was the first control pad released with the PS3, it was missing the Rumble Function, they had to remove the Rumble Function due to loosing a lawsuit with Immersion.
SKU - Stock Keeping Unit.
SPE - Synergistic Processing Elements.
SPU - Synergistic Processing Unit.
Themes - Can be dynamic and/or with different backgrounds. You can create your own theme on OFW.
VMC - Virtual Memory Card - This is used for PS2 saves on the PS3.
VME - Virtual Memory Card Export.
XMB - Xross Media Bar - Graphical Interface User designed as a cross. Used on the OS on PSX, PSP and PS3 and few other Sony Products.
YLOD - Yellow Light Of Death.

Format your flash drive to FAT32 and make a folder named PS3 then make another folder inside that and name it UPDATE and put the PS3UPDAT.PUP into the UPDATE folder.

3.55 IS QUITE OUT DATED, and if your thinking your going to do that by usb then you need to do more research as no ps3 is hackable when updated past 3.55 unless you get a device that will copy the internal memory and then be able to modify the internal memory from pc and write the memory back on to the ps3 after testing that the memory back up was fully good. then there is the issue that newer models from the last model of a regular slim to a super slim are not hackable, on the back is a seriel number at the end is the model starting at CECH- models that are not hackable are CECH3001a, or also known as CECH-300Xx standing for any region after 0 and then hdd size as last letter. super slims have CECH400Xx. even though the 300Xx looks like the past 3 slims CECH2001, 2101, and 2501, the internal memory is set in a newer structure that has not been decoded and will not work to hack it. you will have to look up tutorials with devices and which devices can hack which models. older first 4 gen phat models actually have two separate NAND internal memory's as the last last phat models are single nors , phats go by the alphabit for models CECHA01-CECHP01, all have nands until models CECH H01- LAST phat use NORS internal memory. a simple usb will not hack any model alone. the ps3 memory is not based off the hdd like a pc to hack it. the only thing on the hdd are game files users, saves, none of the security that prevents cfw from official is based on the hdd.

Need the full part after cech to know last number is region or country last letter is hdd size. In order to do rtm you have to convert your cex to a dex ,also known as developers console. You will have to convert, know coding and know how strings work in editing a patch while playing. You risk a greater ban in general when you convert to dex. Cex cfw lets you have full hdd access to swap files but can be scanned and flagged as having a hacked console.

I would like to present my OFW, CFW, DEX, SEX, MFW PS3 Collection!
Getting Started:
(Please take note on what these mean and understand them before proceeding any further)
OFW = Original Firmware from Sony
CFW / CEX = Custom firmware, a professionally modified open PS3 firmware
DEX = A DEBUG Firmware (Developer) only test / debug PS3 consoles
SEX = Kiosk / Demo Firmwares information on all PS3 versions
MFW = User-Created Custom Firmware
PS3 Glossary:
PlayStation 3 - The game console that brought us all here, also abbreviated as PS3.
Cell - Also known as Cell Broadband Engine Architecture and abbreviated CBEA or Cell BE, this is the processing brain of the PS3.
CEX - This is a retail machine.
CFW - Custom Firmware.
Cinavia - A system implemented in Official Firmware 3.10, this was an effort to stop PS3 owners playing Pirated/Backed Up movies, those on MFW/CFW can install a Homebrew App to bypass this.
CRL - Certificate Revoke List.
DEX - This is a Debug machine.
DualShock 3 - Sony later released this PS3 Control pad, that has the Rumble Function, they were able to implemet Rumble when they settled with Immersion.
Emotion Engine - Also known as EE, this was the Graphical heart of all PS2's and was in the first released PS3's and later removed due to cost cutting and replaced by Software Emulation.
DISC.SFO - File to force you to use the original disc of the installed HDD Game.
EBOOT - This file is present in all PS3 games, it contains various information, during the 3.55MFW/CFW days, patches would have been released for eBoots signed with newer Keys/SDK, so that they could be playable on 3.55
ELF - ELF means Executable and Linkable Format, this type of file is present in or used on PSP, PS2 and PS3.
IDPS - ID Per System (Thanks Kamel and zecoxao).
ISO - Also known as ISO Image, this is like a RAR file which combines the contents of a Disc(CD/DVD/Blu-Ray) into a single file, used on CFW PS3's for PS1/PS2/PSP and PS3 Games.
lv0ldr - Level 0 Loader aka Boot Loader aka bootldr.
lv0 - Level 0.
lv1.self - Level 1 Secure ELF.
MFW - Mod Firmware.
NAND/NOR - The PS3's flash
Nonce - Number + Once = unique random number
PARAM.HIS - display the changelog of the game/homebrew from xmb.
PARAM.PFD - File used for secure the ps3 save data.
PARAM.SFO - File which contains settings/parameters around/about the game such xmb in game, remote play, resolution, fw min game should use, region deny...
PKG - This is a package file, it is used to install games or software/homebrew.
PlayStation Plus/PS+ - This is a premium service for PSN, it gives subscribers free games, discounts on games and early access to betas.
PPE - Power Processing Element, the PS3 has one of these, which contains 8 SPE's.
PS3_DISC.SFB - File used for activate sub-folder of the game such update, theme, and others.
PS3UPDAT.PUP - This is the firmware file, that you use to update your console.
PSL1GHT - Open Source Version of Sony PS3 SDK.
PSN - PlayStation Network.
PUP - Playstation Update Package.
RCO - file that contains icons, text and sound that appears on xmb but can not be modify from theme.
Remote Play - PSP, PSVITA, PC or phone used as sound/video monitor and controller for PS3. Different resolutions are available but not all the games are compatible.
Revoke - To void the validity
RLOD - Red Light Of Death.
RSOD - Red Screen Of Death.
RSX - Also called Reality Synthesizer, this is the Graphical heart of all PS3's.
SDK - Software Development Kit.
SELF - Secure ELF.
SEN - Sony Entertainment Network.
SEX - This is a shop/demo machine.
Sixaxis - This was the first control pad released with the PS3, it was missing the Rumble Function, they had to remove the Rumble Function due to loosing a lawsuit with Immersion.
SKU - Stock Keeping Unit.
SPE - Synergistic Processing Elements.
SPU - Synergistic Processing Unit.
Themes - Can be dynamic and/or with different backgrounds. You can create your own theme on OFW.
VMC - Virtual Memory Card - This is used for PS2 saves on the PS3.
VME - Virtual Memory Card Export.
XMB - Xross Media Bar - Graphical Interface User designed as a cross. Used on the OS on PSX, PSP and PS3 and few other Sony Products.
YLOD - Yellow Light Of Death.

I would like to present my OFW, CFW, DEX, SEX, MFW PS3 Collection!
Getting Started:
(Please take note on what these mean and understand them before proceeding any further)
OFW = Original Firmware from Sony
CFW / CEX = Custom firmware, a professionally modified open PS3 firmware
DEX = A DEBUG Firmware (Developer) only test / debug PS3 consoles
SEX = Kiosk / Demo Firmwares information on all PS3 versions
MFW = User-Created Custom Firmware
PS3 Glossary:
PlayStation 3 - The game console that brought us all here, also abbreviated as PS3.
Cell - Also known as Cell Broadband Engine Architecture and abbreviated CBEA or Cell BE, this is the processing brain of the PS3.
CEX - This is a retail machine.
CFW - Custom Firmware.
Cinavia - A system implemented in Official Firmware 3.10, this was an effort to stop PS3 owners playing Pirated/Backed Up movies, those on MFW/CFW can install a Homebrew App to bypass this.
CRL - Certificate Revoke List.
DEX - This is a Debug machine.
DualShock 3 - Sony later released this PS3 Control pad, that has the Rumble Function, they were able to implemet Rumble when they settled with Immersion.
Emotion Engine - Also known as EE, this was the Graphical heart of all PS2's and was in the first released PS3's and later removed due to cost cutting and replaced by Software Emulation.
DISC.SFO - File to force you to use the original disc of the installed HDD Game.
EBOOT - This file is present in all PS3 games, it contains various information, during the 3.55MFW/CFW days, patches would have been released for eBoots signed with newer Keys/SDK, so that they could be playable on 3.55
ELF - ELF means Executable and Linkable Format, this type of file is present in or used on PSP, PS2 and PS3.
IDPS - ID Per System (Thanks Kamel and zecoxao).
ISO - Also known as ISO Image, this is like a RAR file which combines the contents of a Disc(CD/DVD/Blu-Ray) into a single file, used on CFW PS3's for PS1/PS2/PSP and PS3 Games.
lv0ldr - Level 0 Loader aka Boot Loader aka bootldr.
lv0 - Level 0.
lv1.self - Level 1 Secure ELF.
MFW - Mod Firmware.
NAND/NOR - The PS3's flash
Nonce - Number + Once = unique random number
PARAM.HIS - display the changelog of the game/homebrew from xmb.
PARAM.PFD - File used for secure the ps3 save data.
PARAM.SFO - File which contains settings/parameters around/about the game such xmb in game, remote play, resolution, fw min game should use, region deny...
PKG - This is a package file, it is used to install games or software/homebrew.
PlayStation Plus/PS+ - This is a premium service for PSN, it gives subscribers free games, discounts on games and early access to betas.
PPE - Power Processing Element, the PS3 has one of these, which contains 8 SPE's.
PS3_DISC.SFB - File used for activate sub-folder of the game such update, theme, and others.
PS3UPDAT.PUP - This is the firmware file, that you use to update your console.
PSL1GHT - Open Source Version of Sony PS3 SDK.
PSN - PlayStation Network.
PUP - Playstation Update Package.
RCO - file that contains icons, text and sound that appears on xmb but can not be modify from theme.
Remote Play - PSP, PSVITA, PC or phone used as sound/video monitor and controller for PS3. Different resolutions are available but not all the games are compatible.
Revoke - To void the validity
RLOD - Red Light Of Death.
RSOD - Red Screen Of Death.
RSX - Also called Reality Synthesizer, this is the Graphical heart of all PS3's.
SDK - Software Development Kit.
SELF - Secure ELF.
SEN - Sony Entertainment Network.
SEX - This is a shop/demo machine.
Sixaxis - This was the first control pad released with the PS3, it was missing the Rumble Function, they had to remove the Rumble Function due to loosing a lawsuit with Immersion.
SKU - Stock Keeping Unit.
SPE - Synergistic Processing Elements.
SPU - Synergistic Processing Unit.
Themes - Can be dynamic and/or with different backgrounds. You can create your own theme on OFW.
VMC - Virtual Memory Card - This is used for PS2 saves on the PS3.
VME - Virtual Memory Card Export.
XMB - Xross Media Bar - Graphical Interface User designed as a cross. Used on the OS on PSX, PSP and PS3 and few other Sony Products.
YLOD - Yellow Light Of Death.
