What's up all, I've seen a lot of people coming to the site with jailbroken PS3s they bought on eBay with a system version of 4.xx and they don't know whether it is on that particular firmware or spoofed to look like it. So, I thought I'd take a minute and write up a quick explanation on how to tell.
And yes, I understand that to the more experienced users. This all seems mind-numbingly easy but some don't know so this thread is for them to learn and help them out. 
Note: This will NOT help with a particular firmware like whether it is Rebug, Rogero, etc., just the version.
Now to check for the firmware version that you are on, it is very simple. All you need to do is download one of the applications below...

...once you have one of those downloaded and installed, run whichever one you chose and look for an option called
"System Information". This will tell you what version the firmware is based on, not the spoof. Enjoy!
