I didnt want to take my ps3 apart and put new thermal paste on the CPU because I didnt want to break anything, so I thought maybe it just needed to be cold. This might sound dumb, but it worked for me. I put my ps3 in my refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Since then it hasn't powered off once because of overheating. That was about 2 weeks ago. So if you don't want to take your ps3 apart to put new thermal paste on, just put it in your refrigerator for about 10 minutes and see if that doesn't solve your problem.

i know m8 it proz works but mine overheats but i leave it off for like 3 month now its winter i turn it on yesterday for 3 hours it was fine i think cold air works cuz last time was on it it was summer very hot summer it overheated in 30seconds in that hot summer

You would have to be a complete idiot to put your ps3 in the fridge ----the reason it is overheating is either you have a ton of dust and dirt in your fan system or your graphics cpu is getting ready to red light ---due to the fact that sony uses lead free solder when they originally installed your cpu's---from turning on and off the solder gets brittle and connections break ----if you don't know how to take it apart and replace the thermal paste between the cpu's and also clean it out ---take it to someone that can -----it's a beginning sign that it's getting ready to red light

Putting your PS3 in a fridge don't do anything to the console but really cool it down. Only problem with this method is he could of completely break the PS3 or he can fix it which he did. Its 50/50 but when you have red light might as well try anything that comes across your mind.

i replaced thermal past used artic silver 5 or somthing ,the factory uses crap thermal past.. *best advice i could give if someone
considering this is heat up the ps3 first "let it run till its hot" then carefully remove the motherboard
otherwise you will break the solder on the board and get (YLOD)or(RLOD)


ps3 never gets hot now and i barely ever hear the fan kick into high....
