Okay this thread is mainly for those of you who are new to modding or have no clue about any of this stuff simple as that I will begin!
- Hard Brick
Soft Brick
YLOD
GLOD
RSOD
HARD BRICK
This can only be done one way and that way is by using an e3 flasher with a bad dump of your NOR chip and patching and copying it over. The only way to repair it is by getting a good dump of your NOR previously and copying that over it
SOFT BRICK
This is the most common PS3 problem currently and it mainly only happens to CFW users or the "Demo Mode" users. This can be done by spoofing, or uninstalling a bad/incorrect firmware. Most new CFW firmwares have QA flag toggled so you can install any CFW over your currently CFW. Having a spoof on won't effect your firmware changes.
Example: 4.60 ITA spoof, you can still install a 4.70 spoof being as the spoof only changes the PS3 VSH.SELF to go online not actually the firmware itself because you are still on 4.50 ITA its just spoofed/updated
To fix this you simply have to install your old firmware via recovery mode using the 6th option "System Update" and you will be back to your firmware (UNSPOOFED) to get online you must respoof. If that doesn't work you need to swap your HDD (hard drive) with another SATA 2.5 Hard drive, ALL PS3 consoles have SATA 2.5's so if you have another PS3 you can do that.
Yellow Light of Death (AKA YLOD)
This is caused by one of two things, The first is a hardware failure. This usually is located in the power supply or your BLU RAY is not completely hooked in. The Second is overheating/desoldering of the CPU Chip. The console will overheat and the soldering under the chip will have gone bad and you must REBALL THERE IS NO OTHER FIX!!! Replacing thermal paste will fix an overheating problem if properly cleaned and reapplied.
GLOD (Green Light of Death)
This is another one of those fatal errors like YLOD this is the RSX/Video card of your PS3 and it has overheated to the point where it Desoldered itself from the Motherboard and you can't see video. Signs your RSX is overheating are random multicolored / green / pinkish pixels all over the screen of your TV / Monitor. If that is happening turn the ps3 off and Re-apply the thermal paste to the RSX and use a heat gun to Semi Resolder it to the board. People often confuse this with soft bricking make sure to do the soft brick tutorial before this one.
RSOD (Red screen of death)
This is VERY common with spoofing because people aren't doing this correctly or have a bad VSH.SELF. mainly all you have to do to fix this is reinstall your CURRENT firmware. Unless you are on CEX then you can install the Rogero 3.55 999 downgrader. That has an RSOD FIX inside it. As well most CEX current firmwares have the RSOD fix. PS3ITA 4.50 has a fix as well as rebug 4.65.2 COBRA CEX/DEX. This is a simple fix and the easiest. If this doesn't work for you you must replace your PS3 hard drive and re-install the CFW.
