Today, I will be showing you how to become a modder in general... this tutorial will cover everything from downgrading your console, to actually installing mods and so on... Everthing will be in steps, therefore it will be easy to follow... and if you get stuck on a step, simply reply to the thread or send me a message...

I've seen around the forum, that people actually want know how to become a modder, were as they will open threads and people will reply to them... however, the replies are those such as "Get a Jailbroken Console"... although that is corrent the answer is vaugue and doesn't help much... therefore, I decided to create this very detailed thread covering everthing you need to know... this thread are for those who are new to the modding business and actually want to get started...

Step 1: Checking to see if your PS3 can be downgraded



There are three types of PS3 models, which are the: PS3 FAT, PS3 SLIM and the PS3 SUPER SLIM... Here are some pictures so you can recognize what these are:

You will notice that below next to the CECH number I have put two xx... all the two xx mean are the region of were your PS3 originated from... for example CECHA03 is from the United Kingdom... Since 03 is the United Kingdom region code for the PS3...

The good news is that if you own a PS3 FAT, then your PS3 can be downgraded since all Fat models range from CECHAxx - CECHGxx (For Nand) and CECHHxx - CECHPxx (For Nor)

However, only a certain models of the PS3 SLIM can be downgraded those are all the 2000 series consoles... the reason as to why the 3000 series can't be downgraded is becasue they use a different type of encryption which hasn't been found yet... and for those which own a PS3 SUPER SLIM, you can't downgrade your console... so your best hope is to sell it then buy one which is downgrade compatible

There is an easier method than this... and it is to use "MinVerCheck"... this tells you the minimum firmware that can be installed on your PS3... Follow the instructions below...

Step 1: Download "MinVerCheck" You must login or register to view this content.

Step 2: Extract the folder using whatever programme you use to extract files such as Winrar...

Step 3: Create a folder called... "PS3", within the "PS3" folder create a sub-folder called "UPDATE"

Step 4: Place the PS3UPDAT.PUP in the update folder...

Step 5: Go to Settings > System Update > Upload Via Storage Media > Click "Ok" once it finished scanning the .PUP and it will tell you the minimum firmware that can be installed on your PS3

Note it must be on 3.55 or under...



Step 2: Understanding what tools are used to downgrade consoles...



Now before, you decide to go and buy one of these tools you will first need to have knowledge of how to use it and more importantly buying the right one... The are two types of chips on your Mother Board (Nor and Nand)

There are three very well known downgrading tools... these are the: E3 NOR FLASHER, PROGSKEET 1.21, TEENSY++ 2.0... I've included pictures below

The most common out of these three are the E3 NOR FLASHER, however this can only downgrade Nor Chips... Here are the models which can be downgraded with the E3 NOR FLASHER, PROGSKEET 1.21 and the TEENSY++ 2.0, I've included two images... one of the PS3 FAT and the other of the PS3 SLIM... I also put a "Red Box" around the cosnoles which can be downgraded with the E3 NOR FLASHER, PROGSKEET 1.21 and TEENSY++ 2.0...

Step 3: Getting your console downgraded (Video Tutorials and Text Tutorials)



The E3 NOR FLASHER is such a common tool for downgrading that you see... hundreds of videos about it... were as both the PROGSKEET 1.21 and the TEENSY++ 2.0 have hardly any tutorials on the internet on how to downgrade... However, I decided to search the internet and find video tutorials on how to downgrade with all these three downgrading tools... you will need to get your PS3 downgraded to 3.55...

E3 NOR FLASHER (Downgrading Tutorial)

E3 NOR FLASHER (Written Tutorial...)



Follow the instructions below to downgrade the PS3 to 3.55 (Make sure both the USB and the Micro SD Card are formatted to FAT32)

I decided to make a written tutorial about the E3 NOR FLASHER based on the downgrades videos above... I will link all the downloads you need today...

1. Copy the "2012.01.05" file into the root of the Micro SD Card.
2. Eject the Micro SD Card from the PC
3. Place the Micro SD card in the E3 Nor Flasher
4. On the E3 Nor Flasher make sure switch 1D 2D 3U 4U 5U 6U
5. Turn on the PS3
6. All eight lights should be on
5. On the E3 Nor Flasher make sure switch 1D 2D 3U 4D 5D 6D
6. Now press the reset button on the E3 Nor Flasher
7. Now click the start button on the E3 Nor Flasher
8. Once the E3 Nor Flasher finished taking all three readings take out the Micro SD Card.
9. Open "PS3 Dump Checker"
10. Place the "bkpps.bin" in the Dump Checker
11. Do you want to patch this image, click yes and exit the programme.
12. Delete everything on the Micro SD Card
13. Put the bkpps in the root of the Micro SD Card
14. Rename it to "bkpps3.bin"
15. Eject the Micro SD Card
16. Place the Micro SD Card in the E3 Nor Flasher
17. Make sure that switch 1D 2D 3D 4D 5D 6D
18. On the E3 Nor Flasher click reset then click start
19. All lights on the E3 Nor Flasher should be flashing
20. Reassemble the PS3


Follow the instructions below to downgrade it full to OFW 3.55

1. Open the PS3(1) Folder and copy the "PS3" folder onto the root of your USB
2. Install the update on the PS3 place both the "toggle_qa" and the "Condor Updater 3.1" onto the root of the USB
3. Place both the "toggle_qa" and the "Condor Updater 3.1" onto the root of the USB
4. Hover over network settings and L1+L2 R1+R2 L3 + Dpad_Down
5. Open the PS3(2) Folder and copy the "PS3" folder onto the root of the USB
6. Insert the USB into the right socket of the PS3
7. Click the "PS" button then click "Start" and "Select" at the same time
8. You are now on OFW 3.55

Step 4: Jailbreaking your console, were as you will be able to install Package Files



I have decided to link you to this video since it covers everything you will need to do to Jailbreak your console after you downgraded it to 3.55...

Step 5: Understanding about the two different types of firmware CEX and DEX



There are two different types of firmware CEX and DEX... By default your PS3 is set on CEX and you have the ability to change that to DEX... I will be speaking about this later in the tutorial...

What is CEX?

CEX is a retail console that you buy in store...

What is DEX?

DEX is a developers console, that has more advantages than CEX

Many new people to this business want to know the advantages and disagvantages of owning a CEX and DEX console... so I gave some examples below...

Advantages of CEX

- General stuff, such as modding...

- Play Backup games

- Easy to use and is user friendly

- Uses CCAPI, which you are able to change your IDPS (CID) and PSID easily... (CCAPI connects your PS3 to your PC)


Disadvantages of CEX

- Can be slow... depending on your internet connection and your ISP (Internet Service Provider)

- Not many SPRX are developed for CEX...


Advantages of DEX

- You can do everything that CEX offers plus more with DEX

Disadvantages of DEX

- You will need to switch over and it is not as easy to use as CEX

- A lot of poeple don't want to switch over since they are scared they will brick their console (Chances are low)



Step 6: Deciding if you want to go on DEX



You can skip this step if you want to stay on CEX... I would suggest DEX... however, it is up to you... Below is a thread that Kryptus made (Staff on NGU) on how to switch over from CEX to DEX easily... Many of you don't want to switch over to DEX since you are scared you will brick your console... the chances are low...

Step 7: Installing all the package files you will most likely need...



This is going to be for CEX users mostly since if you are already on dex then you are practically set...

Questions and Answers



I just got a Jailbroken system, should I choose CEX or DEX?



If your new to having a Jailbroken system them it's suggested that you stay on CEX rather than DEX since it is easier to use... after you grasp the knowledge of how to use your new Jailbroken console you can switch over to DEX... since DEX has all the features of CEX plus more.



I just got console banned, what should I do?



If your console banned it will tell you this... if you want to get unbanned you will need to change your CID (IDPS)... you can use CCAPI, PSNPATCH, or even IDPS Set to do this...

For CCAPI



Step 1: Connect both your PC and your PS3 with CCPAI

Step 2: Where it says "IDPS" enter your new CID... it will need to be 32 characters long. Once you entered your new CID, click set IDPS



For PSNPATCH



Step 1: Create a .txt document

Step 2: Inside the .txt write idps= write your 32 character long IDPS here

Strep 3: Save the .txt as psnpatch.cfg

Step 4: Put psnpatch.cfg on the root of your USB...

Step 5: Plug the USB into your PS3 then run PSNPATCH

Step 6: Once PSNPATCH is running click "Square" on your controller and click "X"





I'm using CCAPI and my PS3 doesn't Connect?



This is most likely because your PS3 IP address has changed... make sure the IP address is the same to that on CCAPI.






You have now done everything, or at least gained knowledge of how to become a modder in general... as you get familiar with the modding business, you will grow your knowledge and develop new understandings of how things work...

Do i need a computer

To transfer the files over? You can use an android to transfer it to an SD card...

thank you, i know i cannot RTM but yeah that would be better from a cell phone.

There is an android app for GTA V but you need a PC since it's Android - PC - PS3... the PC handles the data...
