Lets kick things off with fat models. Pretty much all fats models can be downgraded to 3.55. This is because the fat was WELL before 3.55.

Now the slims. Only some slims can be downgraded to 3.55. Any model thats CECH-25xx and below can be downgraded to 3.55. However, anything above that model number CAN NOT be downgraded. This is because the model was made AFTER 3.55. So if your slim is in the 3000 series you cant downgrade.

ALL SUPER SLIMS CANNOT BE DOWNGRADED. The super slim was made after 3.55! Anything that claims that you can downgrade a super slim is fake!

How do I downgrade?
You need install an E3 flasher into your PS3. This requires opening it to the motherboard. There are many tutorials out there to install a E3 flasher into your PS3.
ANYTHING THAT CLAIMS THAT YOU CAN DOWNGRADE WITH A USB IS EITHER FAKE OR A VIRUS!.
