There is no harm in restoring it but if you are wanting to read the data on a computer you are out of luck there is no way to do it without having the EID Root Key.
The EID root key is important to complete various task, some of these task include: DEX Conversions from CEX consoles, and also the viewing/copying of the PS3's Internal HDD, which will require the EID Root Key in conjunction with an app such as: nullptr's PS3 HDD Utility.
So unless you have that then I doubt that you will be able to read and especially write anything on the PS3 HDD on a computer.
