Hi guys I new to this forum and I know this question has already been asked but I have a slightly different question. I heard alot of people saying that cloning does work but it PS3 only recognizes the same amount of free space as the old hdd.
When trying to clone a PS3 HDD has anyone every tried formatting the new HDD in the PS3 first and then using a boot disk to boot into a Command Prompt without windows booting and coping all the files over that way? or having the boot disk boot into a Partition Master or a program to copy the files over from the old hdd to the new hdd?
If not is someone willing to try it? if it doesn't work then there is no loss as you still have the old hdd that will still have everything on it. If it does well there's the solution to the prob.
I'm only asking cause I'm wanna upgrade my 320GB to a 1TB and money is a tight right now and don't wanna have to buy 2 hdds just to upgrade not to mention the long wait time of having to backup to 1 then restore to the new hdd. And if that's the only way then that's the only way and i'll have to do it that way.
First things first, it is possible to swap a HDD with a bigger one, however you have to sacrifice all of your data.
Transferring files from one HDD to another without using PS3's backup Utility is not exactly possible since all of the data on the HDD is encrypted.
So, I'd reccomend using the stock PS3 Backup utility with an external drive even though its expensive.
