UPDATE: i’ve added a few error checks to the app
UPDATE 2/8/11: i’ve added a few tweaks to the UI, also i’ve made the app copy your gameID from yourSFO to the otherSFO if the id in otherSFO is not the same, hopefully this might help games from other regions work.
UPDATE 2/9/11: i’ve added a save file dialog, in other words, you shouldnt get any file errors now, you can choose the name and where to save the modded param.sfo also theres a new feature enabling you to copy your console id to the modded param.sfo users can try this if the default settings wont work.

Most people will say you do, but I disagree.
Using MS-DOS or NTFS 4 DOS (if you have a NTFS partition) you can avoid the corruption of the PARAM overwrite.
1- Do not overwrite or copy anything. Delete the downloaded param using DOS and them MOVE the prepared PARAM to the downloaded folder location.
2- Then, use Mini Windows XP from a live CD to transfer the PS3 folder to the usb. You can find it in Hiren's Boot CD along with many kinds of DOS.
You will be able to copy the save to your PS3 HDD with no problems.
I did this with FFXIII. I still got the "created by another user" message but at least there was no corruption whatsoever. I'm on OFW 3.56 (why did I upgrade my god... why?).

Ok this may or may not help with other games but i tried for about a day to get GTA4 save working i really wanted to see the other ending without replaying the whole game i got a save off gamefaqs opened up the saveunlocker and loaded the gamefaqs save Param in "your Param.sfo" and loaded my save Param as "other Param.sfo" i moved the newly made Param to a newfolder closed and reopened save unlocker and loaded my original saves Param as "your Param.sfo" and loaded the newly made Param in "other Param.sfo" and it worked for me maybe i just got lucky but let us know if this works out with any other saves and goodluck
