To my understanding, every time a hard drive gets put into a new ps3, it needs to be reformatted.

idk im just trying fig out before i buy something that doesnt work. i want to just find a 3.55 ps3 if anyone is selling one msg me!

i have 2 harddrives 4 my 1 ps3 on 4.25 evrytime u take one out n put the other one in it starts up perfectly unless u update ps3 on a diffrent harddrive then u just have to update mannualy

any time ive taken a drive out, it's been formatted upon putting it back in. i tested this out a while ago taking the drive out and then putting it back in the same ps3 a few seconds later... needed to be formatted. this was a few years ago though. maybe it's different. i doubt it though.
going from 1 ps3 to another though, i think thats a definite format there.
keep your money. save up for a genuine 3.55 or lower.

There is a way to make the HDD not format, but regardless, it's very stressful, and it's very tedious. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend doing it on a slim PS3, but a FAT might possibly work. But like I said...it's a pain in the ass. The HDD gets reformatted every time you take it out, or put one, or the same back in. I thought by swapping HDD'S at one time, I could change the 1.11 patches in MW2. All that needed to be done was just copy the modded patch_mp.ff over. :dumb:

I wouldn't recommend anyone do this unless you know what you're doing. The HDD is a very sensitive device...so don't throw it...at the wall...or anything.

I totally did that once. My PS3 was still under a one year warranty, and it just said it was corrupted. Sony had to fix it. :lol:
