I think they need it to connect so they can verify that it is a legitimate copy of xploder.

Alot of people use Xploder's save database so they need to make sure that the server is connected in order for the database to load. Xploder's servers are either being updated because it was recently DDoS'd or they are getting DDoS'd again.
